Angelo first learnt the trade in the early 1950’s in his hometown of Lugo, Italy. Literally being involved in the process from drying the tree trunk, milling and moulding the wood to putting on gold leaf, it was an experience that exposed him to many skills at a young age. Soon the wider world was calling and after time spent in Paris and London, Angelo took off to travel the world working on a cruise ship.
Deciding to make Australia his home, Angelo turned to his skills learnt in Italy and the partnership of a friend, to start a frame manufacturing business in Boxhill. The business was a great success and soon they were supplying to retail giants like Myers. An interest in art led him to open the framing shop in 1975 where he could get more hands on with clients producing the final framed product and offering a personalised service to frame their works of art. In 1992 they relocated to their current location in Hawthorn.
Owner operator Angelo now works side by side with daughter Diva and son Alex, who along with trade qualifications also learnt under the guidance of their father.
Alex and Diva have both undertaken professional qualifications in picture framing with top marks. Diva was one of the first female apprentice picture framers to graduate, and went on to be nominated for apprentice of the year.
